Cowley College freshman Evan Rodriguez showed why he is the top-ranked wrestler at 141 pounds as he captured the district title with a win over Colby’s Jamdarrious Goolsby in the championship match. The No. 10-ranked Tigers placed seventh out of 12 schools at the NJCAA South Central District Championships held Saturday in Colby, KS.

Scott Auditorium, the No. 14-ranked Cowley College wrestling team battled hard, but a few open weights led to its downfall. The Tigers opened with a 34-21 loss against Fort Hays Tech before falling 34-16 against the Cardinals.

Taking part in a tri-dual in Great Bend on Thursday, the No. 14-ranked Cowley College wrestling team had no problem defeating host Barton County before taking down Neosho County. The Tigers defeated the Cougars 42-15 while slipping past Neosho County 29-22.
