Taking part in its final competition of the first semester, the No. 20-ranked Cowley College wrestling team had multiple placers at the 918 Open held Saturday at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, OK.
Cowley was led by Jimmy Swenson (125 pounds) and Cam Kiser (133 pounds), who placed fourth in their respective weight classes. Evan Rodriguez ranked fifth in the country, had a big weekend, upsetting No. 2-ranked Toryion Stallings of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and the No. 4-ranked wrestler from Southeast.
"As a whole, we wrestled well against some top D2 and D1 guys," Cowley head coach Justice Circle said. "I am happy where we are going into the break."
Cowley will have nearly a month off before returning to compete at the NJCAA Coaches Dual on Friday, January 10-11, at 8 a.m. in Miami, OK.
