Tigers’ rally comes up short in 8-7 loss at Cloud

Playing at Cloud County Tuesday in Concordia, KS, the Cowley College baseball team fell behind early and, despite a late rally, lost by a score of 8-7.

The T-Birds got to Cowley starting pitcher Luke Singleton (0-1) for five runs in only one plus innings pitched before Andrew Talburt and Jack Hill stabilized things by allowing only one run in five innings of relief.

With the Tigers tallying only one hit off Cloud starting pitcher Phil Brennaman (3-0) in his five innings of work, Cowley trailed 6-0 after six innings of play.

Cowley found its offense late in the game as they scored three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to pull within 8-4. The Tigers scored three runs in the ninth inning to close within 8-7 and had the bases loaded with two outs when Cole Askew struck out Jadyn McNealy to end the game.

Tiger first baseman Cooper Schwindt had two of Cowley's six hits in the loss.

Cowley is now 14-11, while Cloud is 16-13.

The Tigers will play a doubleheader at Highland Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. The Scotties are 9-19 on the season.
