Nwankwo signs with NCAA Division I Marist College

Appearing in 16 games for the Cowley College men's basketball team this past season, Jeff Nwankwo parlayed his solid play into signing a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at the NCAA Division I level. Nwankwo will take his talents on to Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Nwankwo transferred to Cowley from Tulane University, where he was a member of the football team. Nwankwo, a 6'6 forward, missed the majority of the fall semester due to injury but came back to average 10.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in 16 contests.

He saved his best for the end of the season as he averaged 14.5 points and 8.8 rebounds over his final four games.

"Jeff is a hard worker that spends a lot of time alone in the gym," Cowley head coach Donnie Jackson said. "To finish as our second-leading scorer is a credit to his work ethic and desire to be a good player. Marist is getting an absolute steal, especially with Jeff having three years left to play. I think the sky is the limit for him."

Nwankwo, who plans to major in psychology, will play for the Red Foxes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

"Marist came to a lot of my games and really wanted me to be there," Nwankwo said. "Cowley helped me improve a lot and get stronger mentally and physically."
