Tiger soccer team wins in OT, moves into first place in conference/region

The Tigers rallied from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 as Lucas Coelho's goal with 9:29 remaining in regulation helped send the game into overtime, where freshman Saxx Adams won it by scoring his sixth goal of the season, 9:32 into the extra period.
"It was a beautiful individual play by Saxx as he turned inside the box and made an unbelievable shot," Cowley head coach Roberto Dos Santos said.
The victory moves the Tigers into a first place tie in the Jayhawk Conference and Region VI standings. Cowley is now 7-3 overall, 5-1 in the conference and 6-1 in the region. The Tigers are tied in points with Barton County (5-0) in the conference and Cloud County (6-2) in the region. Barton County handed the Tigers their lone conference/region defeat back on Sept. 9.
"This is a huge leap for our program, we are having a solid season," Dos Santos said. "We are controlling games better and competing with the so called top teams in the conference."
Cowley's seven wins eclipse all of last season's win total (6).
Enan Favela accounted for the Tigers other goal on Tuesday as he scored off an assist from Coelho, tying the game at 1-1 with 31:09 left to play.
"I recruited Enan as a midfielder but he has been doing a good job for us as an outside back and is growing every game," Dos Santos said.
Dos Santos also credited freshmen defenders Juan Delgado and Mike Muller with providing solid play for the Tigers.
Cowley placed six more shots on goal than the Red Devils (9-3) as they did a good job of controlling the game and possessing the ball.
After dropping their first two road contests, the Tigers have won three straight games away from home.
"It is always a challenge playing on the road, so this was an important win for us," Dos Santos said.
Cowley will venture out of conference to play at Northern Oklahoma College Thursday in Tonkawa, OK, at 4 p.m. Cowley will then play its final five regular season conference/region games over a two-week span.
"We have got to keep the momentum going," Dos Santos said. "NOC is a solid team, I expect it to be a tough match."
