Getting goals from five players, the No. 3-ranked Cowley College men's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 victory at Dodge City on Sunday.
The Tigers are now 3-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Jayhawk Conference. Dodge City (1-4) falls to 1-2 in the conference.
Sunday's game was close for a while as Cowley's Shogo Haraikawa headed in a pass from Takuto Kawase for the lone score of the opening half.
The score would remain 1-0 until the Tigers' Renan Syrio scored off an assist from Joao Magalhaes 17 minutes into the second half. Cowley would keep up the pressure and tack on goals from Kanta Ishii, Hayata Kobayashi, and Carmelo Bello as they cruised to the 5-0 win.
"It's always tough to play at Dodge City, but we did a good job of creating chances to score," Cowley head coach Ruy Vaz said. "There are still things we need to work on, but overall, we were able to pick up our play in the second half. Once we started scoring, we couldn't stop. This shows the depth we have."
Sophomore goalkeeper Kamy Dione faced just two shots on goal while recording his second shutout of the season.
Cowley will open a three-game homestand when they take on No. 14-ranked Lewis & Clark College (0-3) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
"They are a ranked opponent and will provide a challenge," Vaz said. "We will use more guys in the game and need to take advantage of playing at home and use that energy to try and get more assertive."
