The Cowley College track and field coaching staff is conducting a pole vault clinic on June 4-7 at the Mark A Phillips Track and Field Complex located at 230 Pierce St., just East of the Cowley baseball stadium.
The Cowley College track and field coaching staff is conducting a pole vault clinic on June 4-7 at the Mark A Phillips Track and Field Complex located at 230 Pierce St., just East of the Cowley baseball stadium.
The pole vault clinic is designed to help beginning and experienced vaulters learn to vault safely and correctly using technique drills and routines.
Participants are taught proper pole carry, run mechanics, plant timing, take-off, and bar clearance. There is also an emphasis on approach, plant, and take-off. Pole selection and proper training are discussed, and Video analysis is used to help participants learn.
In his four years as vault coach at Cowley, Parker Ray has coached 16 junior college All-Americans, one national champion, and one national record holder, including 2022 national indoor champion Arantxa Cortez. Coach Ray has been involved with the pole vault for nine years.
