The nationally ranked Cowley College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams had three new national qualifiers and several personal best performances while competing on Friday and Saturday at the KT Woodman Classic hosted by Wichita State University.
The Tiger distance squad made up the three new national qualifiers as Esteban Boisseau (3,000-meter steeplechase) and Miquel Cruz (5,000-meter run) joined Lady Tiger Kayli Myers (5,000-meter run) as new national qualifiers.
"Esteban had an incredible debut in the steeple and was on pace to break the school record through a little more than 2K, then fell off the last bit," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "Every race the guy runs, it seems like he is getting better, more confident, and stronger. It was also nice to see Miquel (Cruz) come back around. Friday was the best he has looked since cross country. Kayli (Myers) had herself a night as well. She has all the abilities in the world, and when she gets it to click all together on race day, she has races like this. I believe there is a lot more in there as well."
On Saturday, despite battling windy conditions, Kennedy Kizarr set a new personal best in the pole vault to push her to No. 4 in the program's history of the event. Alex Delgado also had a strong showing in the 110-meter hurdles.
The Tigers will be back in action next week with split squads at the KU Relays and Kansas Wesleyan University Coyote Challenge.
