Softball runs win streak to 10 with run-rule wins at Pratt

The Cowley College softball team continued to beat up on its opponents as they ran its win streak to 10 games in a row with a pair of run-rule wins at Pratt Community College on Thursday. The Lady Tigers defeated Pratt 10-0 in game one before taking down the Beavers 18-6 in the nightcap.

Cowley has outscored its opponents 113-24 during its current win streak. The Lady Tigers are now 14-11 on the season.

In game one, shortstop Maci Cole went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three runs batted in, while Kyla Bonnarens went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Saige Smith (7-5) went the first four innings on the mound and did not allow a run while striking  out five and surrendering four hits. Ellie Kuntz pitched a scoreless fifth inning to finish the victory.

Cowley would trail 6-5 after two innings of play in game two as Pratt chased Tiger starting pitcher Jaala Nowlin after only one inning of work. However, it regained the lead with a pair of runs in the third inning.

With sophomore Sydney Price (1-0) tossing four innings of relief in place of Nowlin, the Lady Tigers scored three runs in the fifth inning and erupted for eight runs in the sixth to win 18-6.

Cole continued to terrorize opposing pitching by going 3-for-4 with a home run and five runs batted in. Cole is now batting .476 with eight home runs and 30 runs batted in.

Bonnarens went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBI as she is now batting .513 with a team-high 38 runs batted in.

Laramie Neff homered and drove in six runs in the doubleheader, while Emily Louderback homered and scored three times.

"The top of our lineup in game two really produced for our team," Cowley head coach Jenny Hoyt said. "They all had competitive at-bats the entire day. We made adjustments in game two and were really putting the ball hard in play."

Taylor Mercer completed the sweep by tossing a scoreless sixth inning. Pratt, losers of 12 games in a row, falls to 3-23 on the season.

Cowley will put its win streak on the line when they play a doubleheader at Barton Community College Monday at 2 p.m. Barton is 15-12 on the season.
