Lady Tiger softball remains unbeaten in the conference with wins at Independence

Playing a doubleheader at last place Independence Community College on Wednesday, the No. 17-ranked Cowley College softball team ran its winning streak to 14 games with a pair of easy wins over the Lady Pirates. Cowley won the opener 10-2 before run-ruling Independence 15-0 in game two.

Cowley is now 35-10 overall and 12-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division. Independence (10-19) falls to 1-11 in conference play.

Clinging to a 3-2 lead after four innings in Wednesday's opener, Cowley got a two-run homer from Emily Louderback in the top of the fifth to lead 5-2. The Lady Tigers would tack on a run in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh to win 10-2.

Louderback drove in four runs, while Shayne Roberts had three hits in the victory.

Mikah Vann improved her record to 17-3 as she allowed six hits and two runs, to go along with eight strikeouts and no walks in the complete game victory.

Independence starting pitcher Gabriella Simpson (8-11) allowed 12 hits and seven runs while going the distance on the mound.

In game two, Cowley scored six runs in the first inning and cruised to the 15-0 shutout of the Lady Pirates.

The Lady Tigers would chase Lady Pirate starting pitcher Emma Pickering (0-6) in the top of the second inning, as Pickering allowed 11 runs while recording only three outs.

Jamie Molina hit her sixth home run of the season in the win, while Louderback homered for the second straight game and now leads Cowley with 15 home runs.

Freshman second baseman Kanon Goji drove in three runs in each game of the doubleheader and now leads the team with a .422 batting average. Harper Hancock also had a big doubleheader, going 4-for-6 with two doubles and four RBI in the pair of victories.

Lady Tiger starting pitcher Jaiden Swanson allowed only two hits and one walk in five shutout innings as the right-hander struck out six.

Cowley will return home to play a doubleheader against Kansas City Kansas Community College on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Lady Blue Devils (28-14) are in second place in the conference with a record of 10-2.
