Six former Lady Tiger basketball players take part in national tournaments

Continuing to excel at the next level, six former Cowley College women's basketball players had the opportunity to compete at national tournaments during the 2011-2012 season.
Gianna Woods, Ariana Silva, Maylisa Johnson, Kaneesha Lee, and Anna Sonka each played in NCAA Division II National Tournaments, while Maggie Vieyra was a member of Sterling College, which qualified for the NAIA National Championships.
Woods and Silva play for Rogers State (OK). Woods had 10 points and five rebounds in Rogers State's (OK) 80-73 overtime win against Cumberland (KY) on Wednesday, while Silva chipped in with nine points. The overtime victory marked the first win in NAIA postseason play in the program's short five-year history.
Woods is having a stellar season, leading the team in rebounding (8.8 per game) and averaging 11.6 points per game. Silva averages 9.0 points and leads the team in three-pointers made (61) and free-throw percentage (83.3 percent).
Rogers State (21-11) will face Shorter (Ga.) Friday at 6:15 p.m. in the second round of the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship.
Maylisa Johnson had a solid season at Valdosta State, where she helped the team advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division II National Tournament. Johnson averaged 5.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and a team-high 4.0 assists as the Blazers finished with a record of 22-8.
Kaneesha Lee (4.9 points, 4.0 rebounds) was a member of the Central Missouri basketball team that qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The Jennies finished the season with a record of 20-9.
Anna Sonka (2.6 points) helped Newman University advance to the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the first-time in the school's history. The Lady Jets finished the season with a record of 23-6.
While, Vieyra was a member of Sterling College, which captured the KCAC Tournament title and finished with a record of 18-13. The Warriors advanced to the NAIA National Tournament before having their season come to an end.
