Lay Tiger freshman Mallory Jackson scored 11 of her career-high 23 points in the opening quarter as Cowley took a 27-12 lead. A 34-point second quarter helped Cowley take a commanding 61-30 halftime advantage.
Cowley would lead 79-48 after three-quarters of play and hit four of its 14 three-pointers in the final quarter as they went on to the 53-point road win.
The Lady Tigers, winners of three games in a row, are now 16-8 overall and 11-8 in the Jayhawk Conference. Independence falls to 2-22 overall and 1-17 in the conference.
Jackson was 11-of-13 shooting from the floor, and Cowley shot 52.3 percent as a team.
"Mallory stepped up and carried us in certain stretches of the game," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said.
Elysa Martinez added 21 points and seven rebounds, and Hattie Pyle chipped in with 18 points, nine assists, and seven boards.
Eight Lady Tigers recorded at least one steal in the game as Independence committed 31 turnovers in the defeat.
"Our defensive pressure helped create some easy baskets and really got us going," Clark said.
Allison Reese led the Pirates with 19 points, and Asmin Tanhan added 14 points and 16 rebounds but committed 10 turnovers.
Cowley will return home on Saturday at 1 p.m. to face a red-hot Coffeyville (19-3) squad that has won nine games in a row and is in third place in the conference with a record of 14-3. The Red Ravens enter the contest ranked 17th nationally.
"Coffeyville is playing really well," Clark said. "We will need to play well and find a way to win."
