Red-hot Coffeyville snaps Lady Tigers’ win streak

The Lady Tigers had their three-game win streak snapped and are now 16-9 overall and 11-9 in the Jayhawk Conference. Coffeyville is now 20-3 overall and in third place in the conference (15-3), one and a half games behind conference co-leaders Dodge City and Hutchinson (17-3).
After losing the first meeting against the Red Ravens in overtime, Saturday's final score was not indicative of the outcome, as Coffeyville led by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter before settling for the eight-point road win.
Both teams shot well, and the Red Ravens shot 69 percent in the opening quarter to lead 26-21.
After shooting 50 percent in the first quarter, Cowley made only 2-of-12 shot attempts in the second quarter and went into halftime trailing 37-27.
The Lady Tigers would trail by as many as 17 points (56-39) in the third quarter before pulling within 60-49 entering the final quarter of play.
Coffeyville scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to lead by 20 (69-49) and looked as if they would cruise to the win before Cowley rallied to pull within 82-74 following a layup by Keturah Stewart with 31.3 seconds remaining, but Coffeyville was able to play keep away with the ball and held on for the victory.
"It took us too long to get going," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said. "Coffeyville is really good. It is hard to hold them down."
The Lady Tigers will face a second straight ranked opponent when they host No. 8-ranked Hutchinson on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Lady Dragon sophomore Hailey Jackson hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left to lift Hutchinson to a 62-60 win over Cowley when the teams met on January 4 in Hutchinson. Jackson averages 18.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest.
"They have a nice group, and Hailey Jackson is a really good player," Clark said. "We will need to play better and compete."
