January 24, 2019
Competing at home for the first time this season, the Cowley College wrestling team gave the home fans plenty to cheer about in a 33-15 win over Neosho County Wednesday inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.
The victory improves the Tigers' record to 2-0 in Jayhawk Conference duals.
After falling behind 3-0, Cowley scored the next 24 team points to grab control of the dual.
"Neosho is a tough team and has won several duals this year," Cowley head coach Beau Vest said. "Our middleweights and lightweights did a great job. We have a lot of positives we can take away from this dual."
Trailing his match at 133 pounds by a score of 3-2, sophomore Justice Circle came back to pin Neosho's D'Marcus Hooks with 47 seconds left in the first period. The Tigers Kendall Biddle followed with another first period pin at 149 pounds.
Sophomore Shawn Dent also won by fall at 184 pounds, while Jake Patterson (157 pounds), Garrett Lange (165 pounds), and Dylan Johnson (197 pounds) were other Tigers that were victorious on Wednesday.
Cowley's match at the Norseman Open in Miami, OK this Saturday has been cancelled. The Tigers will now prepare to host Pratt in a dual Wednesday, January 30 at 7 p.m.
"We are still learning, but I think our toughness is starting to show," Vest said. "We have just got to stick to the game plan."
