Tiger wrestlers take part in final home dual of the season

With the season winding down, the Cowley College wrestling team hosted its final dual of the spring semester Wednesday against Labette Community College. The Tigers wrestled hard but came up short in the 31-15 loss to the Cardinals.

According to Cowley interim head coach Justice Circle, the squad has been battling injuries with a few of its wrestlers. However, the Tigers were led by Aidan O'Dell, defeating fifth-ranked Romelle Person-Williams 11-6 in the 133-pound weight class.

"I am super proud of Aidan for grinding that match out," Circle said. "This win is huge for seeding for nationals."

Fellow Tiger Melton Powe, wrestling at 174 pounds, continued his dominance on the mat by pinning Labette's Tony Connor in the first period. While Cowley's other win came at 197 pounds when Kanden Young won by default.

Cowley recognized its three sophomores during the match, beginning with team manager Renissa Cinnamon, Trenton Grant (31-14 career record), and Dean Setticase (34-8 career record).

The Tigers will now prepare to compete at the Jayhawk Duals Sunday at 9 a.m. in Salina.

"The guys have had a long month and a half of wrestling every three to four days, and it is a grind, but it is part of it," Circle said. "We have to be better, and we will."
