Lady Tiger soccer players sign with four-year schools

Helping the Cowley College women's soccer team capture the Plains District title and advance to its first-ever national tournament, sophomores Lea Evin and Fenja Leibner recently signed letters of intent to continue their soccer careers at four-year schools.

Evin signed with NCAA Division I Hampton University, and Leibner signed with NAIA school Louisiana State University of Alexandria.

The duo helped Cowley win its first-ever game at the national tournament and finish with a record of 13-5-4.

"These two are part of a historical campaign at Cowley soccer," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "They came to Cowley and are leaving the doors wide open for the new ones to follow their accomplishments."

Evin is an attacking midfielder who scored five goals and added five assists during the 2023 season.

"Lea works hard on every play and is an excellent playmaker and goal scorer," dos Santos said.

Evin hopes to add instant offense to a Hampton squad that had difficulties scoring goals in the 2023 season.

"The Hampton coaches made me feel like I will be an important part of the program, and I am excited to work with the other players on the team to help the squad improve," Evin said. "I am so grateful for my experience at Cowley. It has been like a second family to me, and I have improved as a person and a soccer player."

Leibner is a defender who scored five goals and added an assist this past season.

"Fenja is a tough player in the backfield and is also dangerous on free kicks," dos Santos said.

Leibner enjoyed her visit with LSU-Alexandria and looks forward to joining another winning program as the Generals went 16-6 and advanced to its first-ever NAIA national tournament.

"We all came together and made great things happen at Cowley, and I hope to do the same at LSU-Alexandria," Leibner said. "Cowley has been a great experience and helped prepare me for the next level."
