Cowley women’s tennis team sweeps opening round of region tournament

The No. 2-ranked Cowley College women's tennis team got off to a dominating start to the Region VI/Jayhawk Conference Championships on Wednesday in Pratt, KS. The Lady Tigers got wins from all six singles players and their three doubles teams.

The Lady Tigers did not drop a set in the opening round and did not lose a game in five of the matches.

After receiving a bye in the first round of No. 6 singles, Lady Tiger freshman Kendra Arostegui defeated Pratt's Imara Achala 6-0, 6-0 in the region title match.

The remainder of Cowley's singles and doubles teams will play for region titles on Thursday.

DOUBLES

*No. 1 – Serena Pereyra/Kendra Arostegui (CC) defeated Russell/Smaalders (Pratt) 6-0, 6-0.

*No. 2 – Akari Tomoyose/Chiho Takada (CC) defeated Souza/Seejong (Barton) 6-1, 6-0.

*No. 3 – Cynthia Wanjala/Naghely Garcia Galian (CC) received a bye in the first round; defeated Petersille/Pauly (Pratt) 6-0, 6-0 in the region title match.

SINGLES

*No. 1 – Pereyra (CC) defeated Dotse (Barton) 6-0, 6-1.

*No. 2 – Tomoyose (CC) defeated Smaalders (Pratt) 6-3, 6-1.

*No. 3 – Wanjala (CC) defeated Souza (Barton) 6-0, 6-0.

*No. 4 – Garcia-Galian (CC) defeated Seejong (Barton) 6-0, 6-0.

*No. 5 – Takada (CC) defeated Petersille (Pratt) 6-0, 6-0.

*No. 6 – Arostegui (CC) received a bye in the first round; defeated Achala (Pratt) 6-0, 6-0 in the region title match.
