Volleyball knocks off Cisco and Rose State in Texas tri-match

The No. 3-ranked Cowley College volleyball team ran its winning streak to five matches in a row with a pair of wins over Cisco College (25-20, 25-17, 25-19) and Rose State College (25-8, 25-13, 25-5) Saturday in Cisco, TX.

Cowley (34-3) previously knocked off Cisco on September 17 in Arkansas City. Cisco came out firing and prepared not to repeat how they played in the earlier match.

"They served aggressively and moved the ball around to cause us problems," Cowley head coach Steveb Gream said. "However, We bounced back with our balanced attack and aggressive serving to pull away in each set. Our defense held them to a .09 hitting percentage which allowed our offense to run smoothly."

Vivianna Solis recorded her 22nd double-double against Cisco with  37 assists and 10 digs. With Solis' family from Texas and other Tiger fans in attendance, the match had the feel of a home game.

Gyongyver Araczki, who shared match-high honors with Rachele Tessari with 10 kills, passed 100 career aces in the win.

"Her reaching 100 career aces is a great achievement and a testament to the strong serving style of our program," Gream said.

Araczki added nine kills and six aces in the win over Rose State as the Lady Tigers finished with 18 aces as a team.

"Rose State struggled to pass our aggressive serve, which gave us easy balls on defense to allow our balanced attack on offense to make many runs in each set," Gream said. "Our middles, Landry Cate and Gyongyver, really have stepped up on offense the last few weeks, and that has put a lot of pressure on our opponents and also allowed our pin hitters to have more open looks on their attacks as well."

Cowley will play its final regular season home match (Sophomore Night) Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. when they host the Oklahoma Wesleyan University JV.
