Tiger tennis players compete at the ITA Small College Regional

Taking part in the ITA Small College Regionals on Thursday through Saturday in Plano, TX, the Cowley College men's and women's tennis teams had some solid performances.

The Tiger men were led by a pair of doubles teams advancing to the semifinals. Juwan Bae teamed with Dan Hosono, and Pedro De La Riva partnered with Valentin Greco to go 2-1 at the tournament.

Lady Tiger sophomore Serena Pereyra placed second in singles play and teamed with Sofia Karlau to place second in doubles. Akari Tomoyose also played well before losing a tough, three-set semifinal match against top-seed Candy Wai of Tyler Junior College.

"I am very proud of what we accomplished in the tournament," Cowley head coach Marcel Miasato said. "We played in the Texas region against top teams, and we were able to qualify some players to play in the ITA National Championship in a couple of weeks in Georgia. We will keep putting in the hard work to give ourselves the best chance of winning the tournament."

Men's Results:

DOUBLES

*No. 2 – Pedro De La Riva/Valentin Greco defeated Marko Filipovic/Emmanuel Jebutu (Weatherford) 8-2; defeated Doni Gashi/Alex Morris (Collin) 9-7; lost to Cem Atlamis/Jose Castillo (Collin) 5-8 in the semifinals.

*No. 3 – Felipe Luguizamon/Isaac Rondon (CC) lost to Sebastian De Las Sallas/David Roseler Caballero (Seward) 3-8; defeated Ouga Miyazaki/Alejandro Pardo Moro (Tyler) 8-3; defeated Santiago Martinez/Cristobal Tellez (Collin) 9-7; lost to Enrique Doldan/Luke Stula (Collin) 4-8 in the consolation finals.
