Volleyball battles hard in loss at No.9-ranked Highland

Playing on the road at No. 9-ranked Highland Community College on Saturday, the Cowley College volleyball team showed signs of improvement in the 20-25, 22-25, 23-25 loss.

Highland, winners of seven matches in a row, is now 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division. The Lady Tigers are now 3-5 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

Despite the loss, Cowley head coach Steven Gream saw some positive signs from his squad, such as holding the Lady Scotties to a .160 hitting percentage.

"I thought we played much better than we had in our previous couple of matches," Gream said. "However, unforced errors at key times cost us sets that we had a chance to finish off."

Sophomore Iva Halacheva led Cowley with 13 kills, while freshman Macy Shreffler added nine kills. Fellow freshmen Gracie Story (35 assists) and Erin Thompson (13 digs) led the Lady Tigers in assists and digs, respectively.

Freshman Jenna Pfau led the Lady Scotties with 13 kills.

Cowley's home match against Coffeyville on Tuesday has been postponed.
