Balanced attack leads Lady Tiger volleyball team to two more wins

Traveling to Siloam Springs, AR, on Friday, the No. 2-ranked Cowley College volleyball team remained unbeaten with wins over John Brown University JV (25-14, 25-14, 25-14) and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (25-8, 25-9, 25-16).

Cowley is now 11-0 on the season.

"It was nice to get two more non-conference wins in advance of our match at Kansas City on Wednesday," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "The matches allowed more people to play, and I thought we did a good job balancing our attack."

In the match against John Brown, Cowley was led by Laci Beougher's 12 kills. Freshman Anna Kiss added 11 kills and 10 assists, while sophomore Landry Cate finished with 10 kills and a .643 hitting percentage.

Cowley returned to the court against NEO and was never threatened as the Lady Norse fell to 0-3 on the season.

Kiss led Cowley with 11 kills.

"Anna was very consistent with her attack and serve," Gream said.

Cate added six kills while hitting .625.

"We have been trying to get Landry going, and her hitting .600 is saying something," Gream said. "It was good to see her break out."

Sophomore libero Sydney Unruh also played well, finishing with 29 digs in the two matches.

"Sydney is getting more and more comfortable in the libero spot," Gream said.

Cowley will put its unbeaten record on the line when they play at conference rival Kansas City Kansas Community College Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Blue Devils are 7-2 overall and 1-1 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division.

"Kansas City is a good team and will be tough at home," Gream said. "We will need to play our game and be prepared for a battle."
