Lady Tiger volleyball team bounces back from first defeat

One day after suffering its first defeat of the season in a five-set thriller against top-ranked Johnson County, the second-ranked Cowley College volleyball team returned to its winning ways with a 25-8, 25-10, 25-10 win over the Friends University JV Saturday in Wichita, KS.

"We did a good job of playing our game and moving on to the next match," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "We fixed some things we needed to work on."

Combining for 40 kills in the loss to Johnson County, Cowley's big-three of Anna Kiss, Laci Beougher, and Gyongyver Araczki again led Cowley on Saturday. Kiss led the way with 12 kills, while Beougher and Araczki added 10 and eight kills, respectively.

Freshman setter Viviana Solis, who had a career-high 52 assists on Friday, finished with 29 assists and 16 digs in the victory over the Lady Falcons.

"Viviana is doing a good job of getting our offense where it needs to be," Gream said.

Cowley is now 21-1 on the season.

The Lady Tigers will host a tri-match on Tuesday as they will face Butler Community College (13-7) at 3:30 p.m. and the Ottawa University JV at 7:30 p.m. Butler is currently ranked No. 20 in the latest NJCAA Division I rankings.

"Butler will be similar to what we saw Friday against Johnson County," Gream said. "We hope to have another big crowd and cannot give Butler easy points."
