
Cowley sweeps weekly volleyball awards
Helping extend top-ranked Cowley College’s win streak to 53 matches last week, Lady Tiger volleyball players Laura Bonomi, Hanna Darvas, and Jessi Ritchhart have been named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 Volleyball Player of the Week honors for week five.

Offensive Player of the Week (Laura Bonomi – Cowley) – Bonomi helped lead a huge offensive week last week for the top-ranked Tigers against some tough competition with her showcasing her skills on both sides of the ball... her strong offensive attack, strong serve, and exceptional defense and serve receive caused problems for opponents all week. Recorded a season high 23 kills while hitting .553 hitting against KJCCC foe Highland who was tied with Cowley and Johnson county for first place in the conference at the time. Passed at a 2.43 passer rating on the week and recorded two double-doubles on the week with double-doubles against #4 Kirkwood and Northeast. The double-doubles give Bonomi six on the season out of the team's 12 matches to date. Bonomi currently ranks sixth in the NJCAA in Kills per set at 4.44 and first in the KJCCC. Statistically she is second in hitting percentage in the KJCCC by hitting .395, second in the conference in service aces per set (0.77).
Setter of the Week (Hanna Darvas - Cowley) - Darvas continues to run the Cowley offense with precision with her averaging, an NJCAA and KJCCC leading, 12.00 assists per set. Her setting skills have propelled Cowley's offense to be first in kills per set (14.38), first in assists per set (13.87), and second in hitting percentage (.338). Recorded a double-double against #4 Kirkwood which gave her the second double-double of the season with season highs of 53 assists 19 digs. Averaged 15.67 assists per set against KJCCC foe Highland, who at the time was tied with Cowley and Johnson County for first in the conference.
Defensive Player of the Week (Jessi Ritchhart – Cowley) – Ritchhart had an impressive week by averaging 6.55 digs per set while also passing at a 2.20 passer rating. Recorded an incredible eight digs per set against KJCCC foe Highland before averaging 5.60 digs per set against #4 Kirkwood and 6.67 digs per set against Northeast. Ritchhart had a big role for Cowley last week as the Tigers have now won 53 straight matches which includes a 54-match regular season winning streak dating back to October 14, 2022. The sophomore currently ranks second in the KJCCC in digs per set (5.62).
