Gream earns 400th career win in Cowley’s victory over Seminole State

The No. 2-ranked Cowley College volleyball team remained unbeaten and earned head coach Steven Gream the 400th win of his decorated coaching career as the Lady Tigers knocked off Seminole State College (OK) 25-16, 25-16, 25-22 Friday in Seminole, OK.

Gream's 400 wins have come at three coaching stops. He is currently 168-40 during his six plus years at Cowley and 400-178 overall in his 17 years as a head coach.

"Four hundred wins is a great honor," Gream said. "I have been blessed to coach at three schools that believed in me and have had the right players in place to do the things that we have done. It's all about the players. The players bought into our philosophy and system of play. They are the ones that did the job on and off the court and have worked to get us those wins. This milestone is a testament to them and they are a huge part of it."

Cowley is now 23-0 on the season, while Seminole State had its four-match winning streak snapped and is now 12-11 overall.

"We came out a little slow, but gradually ramped it up," Gream said. "They put our defense on our heels a bit."

Sophomore Iva Halacheva (18 kills) and freshman Laci Beougher (16 kills) led the way for the Lady Tigers. Beougher had a season-high .538 hitting percentage in the victory. Fellow freshman Gyongyver Araczki added eight kills, five digs and hit .500.

"We put a lot of pressure on Seminole with our balanced attack and serve," Gream said.

Rossana Papa had 43 assists in the win, while Rachele Tessari added eight kills and 10 digs.

The teams will face each other again on Friday when Cowley hosts Seminole State at 5:30 p.m.

"We will use this time to make some adjustments and get ready not only for Seminole but also our matches next week," Gream said.
